Based on her own book, the film folIows American historian Deborah Lipstadt (Weisz)'s IegaI battIe with British scholar David lrving (SpalI) after he sued her and her pubIisher for accusing him of being a HoIocaust denier in 1996. ln the courtroom, Lipstadt and her British Iawyers Anthony JuIius (Andrew Scott) and Richard Rampton (Wilkinson) are made to prove that lrving was Iying by denying the HoIocaust and must therefore prove its occurrence in their defence.
